Super Science Fiction, August 1957

This August 1957 issue of Super-Science Fiction contains five science fiction stories. The featured novelette "Three Survived" by Robert Silverberg follows Spatial Engineer Roy Kilbourne aboard the crippled spaceship Clyde Bohmer after a catastrophic drive failure forces abandonment. Kilbourne attempts to rescue Professor David Loder, a leading gravitonic physicist, and experimental antivirotic drugs, but finds Loder dead and the drug cargo sealed behind radiation shields. He manages to escape in a lifeboat with two unlikely companions: Anthony Leswick, a Metaphysical Synthesis scholar, and an engine-room deckhand—neither possessing scientific skills. Also included are Robert Bloch's "Alternate Universe," examining a mescalin drug's effects; George Whitely's "I'll Take Over," featuring a mechanical brain controlling a starship; and shorter pieces by Raymond E. Banks, Theodore L. Thomas, and Cortwainer Bird. The issue includes feature articles on astronomy and nuclear science.
