· 1961

"Poker de Damas" ("Ladies' Poker"), by Alan Star, is a Spanish-language serial narrative of romantic deception and murder. The story opens with Justin Bates, a wealthy supermarket chain owner, coldly dismissing his mistress Alice after one year together, having decided she was merely attracted to his money. He cruelly insults her, then abandons her. Alice, devastated, attempts suicide by gas, but an unidentified figure intervenes, slapping her awake and urging revenge rather than self-harm. Justin meanwhile pursues "Trixy," a beautiful redhead he met at a café, successfully seducing her at a theater and nightclub. He fantasizes about marrying her immediately. The narrative shifts to the morning after, where his valet Parkins observes Justin sleeping late before an important board meeting, suggesting darker complications ahead for the protagonist.
