Museum Catalog Note This February 1966 issue of *Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine* features "The Hunted Ones," a complete novel by James McKimmey, as its centerpiece. The story concerns Billy Marsh, a twenty-two-year-old counterman from Los Angeles, and his relationship with sixteen-year-old Maria Nivero. When Billy meets Elizabeth Nivero, Maria's wealthy widow mother, for the first time, she interrogates him about his background, intentions, and past—questions that visibly rattle him despite his attempts at composure. Following the interview, Elizabeth calls Carl Miter, a sheriff's deputy with whom she shares history, to investigate Billy. The magazine also includes a Brett Halliday Mike Shayne novelet titled "In the Shadows," a preview of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Affair" by Robert Hart Davis, and six short stories by Donald Honig, Gordon R. Prescott, Aubrey S. Newman, and others.
