Jungle Stories, Vol. 1, No. 5 (Spring 1940) This issue features three novellas and three short stories set in African jungle settings. The lead serial is "Ki-Gor—and the Forbidden Mountain" by John P. Drummond, following the white adventurer Ki-Gor and his American companion Helene as they trek through a Congo swamp toward a hidden refuge Ki-Gor discovered years earlier while escaping slavers. After porters desert the safari, the pair construct a dugout canoe and traverse crocodile-infested waterways, surviving a harrowing capsizing where Ki-Gor kills a giant crocodile by stabbing its brain. "The City That Time Forgot" by Bill Cook involves a drowned jungle city and a hijacker named Latimayne. "The Lion King" by Armand Brigaud features a white character named Je-an and conflict with a slaver named Omdurrah. The short stories include "Garden of Skulls" by Stanley Foster, "The Flaming Serpent" by Guy L. Jones, and "Bush Devil" by Clyde Irvine. The issue also contains a Remington typewriter advertisement.
