This debut issue features "The Master of Mars," a 60,000-word novel by James Edison Northford illustrated in four colors. Flash Gordon, Dale Arden, and Dr. Zarkov arrive at the castle of Pwami, the tyrannical dictator who recently seized control of Mars through military force and reorganized the planet into twelve geometrical states. Pwami, believing Zarkov possesses a valuable atomic disintegrater invention, plots to forcibly obtain it. The issue also includes R. R. Winterbotham's "Saga of the Smokepot," about a lost rocketship drifting derelict through space; "The Last War" by R. R. Botham, depicting future warfare with poison gas and explosives; and "The Man Without a Brain" by R. C. Vane and F. K. Young. Additional features include a science column and advertising.
