Radio broadcasts meanwhile announce Doc Savage's return from a secret Arctic submarine expedition aboard the Helldiver, in which forty crew members departed but only six survived. The aircraft depart eastward toward Long Island Sound, pursuing an unidentified vessel crossing the waters below.
