Deadwood Dick Library No. 34
This issue of *The Dick Turpin Library* serializes "Grim Goblin, the Avenger," a Western adventure story. The narrative follows the Bearded Brothers, a masked criminal gang hideout in the Sierra Nevada mountains during winter. Led by Captain A and including members designated B through G, the gang receives telegraph communications from confederate "Marie the Unknown," a masked figure of indeterminate gender who monitors their criminal operations—apparently forgery and highway robbery. The gang learns that a mysterious vigilante called "Grim Goblin" has been systematically eliminating gang members across nearby mining camps. They also receive warnings about "Nobby Nick," a suspicious character, and government agent Arlington. Meanwhile, the storm-traveler Nobby Nick encounters and aids an elderly Indian named Stern Face against attacking miners in the mountain pass, establishing an unlikely alliance. The narrative combines elements of Western frontier crime, vigilante justice, and action sequences.
