El pacto con Loki
"El Pacto con Loky" by Ralph Barby This Spanish-language horror novel, published by Editorial Bruguera in 1985, opens with medical student Frank Vyland sneaking into a hospital dissection room to examine the brain of a young female accident victim. Vyland had correctly diagnosed her condition as an operable benign tumor, but Professor Halley misdiagnosed her as epileptic, resulting in inadequate treatment. After the girl's fatal accident, Vyland performs an unauthorized examination to confirm his diagnosis. Discovered by Halley, Vyland is confronted but ultimately left unpunished, though mysteriously blacklisted from internships. He receives an unexpected job offer at the Geriátrica Loki retirement home. The narrative then shifts to Vyland's train journey with a young woman named Lilian to assume his new position at this mysterious facility. The text establishes gothic horror atmosphere with institutional settings and suggestions of darker forces at work.
