La casa del gigante
Catalog Note *La Casa del Gigante* ("The Giant's House"), issue 443 of the Selección Terror weekly series published by Editorial Bruguera, presents a mystery-horror narrative split between two locations. The story opens at the Swan and Rose inn in a rural village, where Dathon Waske and associates discuss acquiring local farmland—a ten-year ambition blocked by a tenant farmer at Frankapton House and an unlocated heir. Their conspiracy is interrupted when an enormous, supernatural figure summoned Waske outside and kills him with a single devastating blow, then vanishes into the darkness. The narrative shifts to London attorney Ralph Cahill, who meets American heiress Violeta Dunbar claiming inheritance of her uncle Ben Sharphane's estate: a house, two thousand hectares, and bank funds. Cahill discovers the property is encumbered by an ironclad rental contract favoring tenant Homer P. Quelbs at two hundred pounds monthly—an arrangement Cahill finds deliberately inexplicable. Violeta resolves to visit the property and negotiate with Quelbs directly. The fragment ends mid-sentence as Cahill ponders why her uncle accepted such disadvantageous terms.
