Museum Catalog Note This issue of *Blue and Gray Weekly* (December 16, 1904) features "Chasing the Enemy; or, The Boys in Blue in Hot Pursuit," a serial by Lieutenant Harry Lee. The narrative follows Union Captain Jack Clark and Lieutenant Hal Martin of the Fairdale Blues, a volunteer company from New York that has served under General Grant since Bull Run. As General Halleck's army approaches Corinth in May 1862, the officers reconnoiter the Confederate lines and stumble upon a tense negotiation between Confederate Colonel Wardell and Union Lieutenant Cameron. Wardell presses Cameron to secure the release of his son Jackson, captured while allegedly stealing military documents from General Buell's tent and accused of espionage. Cameron refuses, citing loyalty to the Union cause. The story involves themes of divided allegiance and moral conflict during wartime. The issue also includes extensive advertisements for instructional booklets covering mesmerism, palmistry, hypnotism, sporting skills, fortune-telling, athletics, magic, and mechanical arts.
