This issue of *Best Stories* (June 1947) features five selections across romance, mystery, and fiction genres. "The Stone" by Robert Andersson depicts young fisherman Thorsten Bjornftons in an Icelandic village, struggling with poor catches and village resentment after receiving command of an aging boat. After losing his position to experienced fisherman Nikulas, rejected by his girlfriend Freyja who has left town, and encouraged by the sympathetic Lina, Thorsten encounters a testing stone in town. Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "The Bottle Imp" concerns a man who acquires earthly riches through a devil's bargain. "Spill the Milk" by Doris Harket explores a carnival worker's discovery of infidelity. "Martha Goes A-Borning" by Gertrude Barlow Meyers features a pioneer mother delivering babies while awaiting a doctor. "The Spice Box" rounds out the selections.
