This weekly periodical from November 30, 1887, contains "Sam, the Office Boy: The Tables Turned," a serial by Charles Morris. Mr. Hunter, a suspicious Southern gentleman, dispatches his office boy Sam—described as a comical Black servant—to deliver an important legal document. Sam, feigning ignorance, mistakenly leaves it at 609 Walnut Street (at the law firm Smith & Herring) instead of 606. The unscrupulous lawyers, discovering an opportunity, copy the original document and give Sam the forgery to deliver to Mr. Brown. Later, Sam is tormented by a gang of street boys who pour milk on him and mock him until he fights back successfully against their ringleader. The narrative continues as a serial adventure combining workplace comedy with period elements.
