"The Saints of Sunrise" by William R. Eyster is a Western saloon story serialized in this December 1891 Dime Novel. The narrative follows a young stranger named Jean Jaimeson who enters the Living Light, the principal saloon in the rough frontier town of Sunrise. Observing the dangerous clientele, Jaimeson watches as an elderly, impoverished gentleman performs skillfully on a harmonica, moving the rough patrons to genuine appreciation. When bartender Nip Allison passes a hat for collection and Jaimeson refuses to contribute, the aggressive Paddy Porter confronts him. Their confrontation escalates into a fistfight; Jaimeson strikes Porter before he can raise his guard, sending him crashing into another man and scattering collected coins. Porter returns with a pistol, firing into the crowd as violence erupts around the stranger.
