Daring Dan Shark's General Delivery This issue of Beadle & Adams' weekly pulp magazine (No. 545, April 3, 1889) opens with "Daring Dan Shark's General Delivery," by William G. Patten. The story concerns Ruth Foscolo, a young woman of less than twenty searching for the man responsible for her father's death in the mining camp of Cimarron City. She shelters in a mountain cabin with Joe, her elderly enslaved servant, who descends to the saloon called the Silver Palace to investigate. There he encounters a brutish giant demanding repayment for whisky he claims Joe stole, threatening violence. The story depicts Ruth's determination to find her quarry, who she suspects frequents the camp run by the proprietor Handy Horace Kelnot, a man she believes was her father's murderer. The narrative establishes themes of revenge and betrayal.
