White Beaver's Red Trail by Buffalo Bill (Hon. William F. Cody)
This serial Western follows the operations of Captain Hyena, a masked road agent commanding the "Red Angels," who preys upon Overland stage coaches carrying U.S. mail through Nebraska. The protagonist wears an elaborate costume featuring scarlet-winged mask, white horse, and gold-mounted weapons. In the opening chapters, Hyena ambushes a stage coach, kills the driver who resists him, and kidnaps a well-featured woman passenger while stealing her baggage containing riches. Three U.S. cavalry soldiers pursue the robber and captive across the prairie toward distant hills. A young officer leads the chase, determined to capture the notorious bandit before he reaches terrain where his reported fifty-man gang may aid him. The woman, though captive, demonstrates composure and riding skill, maintaining silent dignity amid her kidnapping.
