George Air Force Base UFO Sightings, May 1952
Official investigation documents of UFO reports at George AFB, California, conducted by Lt. S.J. Ruppelt of the Air Technical Intelligence Command. Nine military sightings occurred between May 1–20, 1952. Reports describe disc-shaped, round, or arrowhead-shaped objects with metallic silver or white coloring, some stationary and others moving in unusual patterns. Witnesses included pilots in T-6 aircraft and ground observers. Initial investigation suggested balloon releases from Edwards AFB, with most incidents attributed to Rawin-sonde weather balloons. Specific sightings correlated with documented balloon launch times and trajectories, though some reports remained unexplained. Documentation includes technical data on balloon burst altitudes, bearings from observation stations, and inter-service communications coordinating observation attempts between radar, fighter interceptor squadrons, and ground teams.
