· January 1950

This document is not a pulp magazine but rather U.S. Air Force official investigation files from January 1950, concerning an unidentified flying object sighting. On January 6, 1950, three Air Force officers—Captain Robert S. Eilberling, Captain Frederick S. Howard, and 1st Lieutenant Harold G. Simpson—observed an unidentified object near Howard, Kansas while flying from Carswell AFB to Offutt AFB. The object, 30–60 feet long and football-shaped with a bright silver appearance (red nose noted by one witness), traveled at 300–500 mph at approximately 2,000 feet altitude in level flight for less than two minutes before disappearing from view. Weather conditions were clear. Inquiries at nearby Olathe Naval Air Base revealed no unconventional aircraft sightings, balloon releases, or flare deployments on that date. Both investigations were closed with all leads exhausted.
