Pulp Magazine Cover, July 1949
This appears to be a U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations report, not a pulp magazine. The document investigates flying saucer sightings reported in the July 15, 1949 Pineville News. Brother O'Neal of Route 3 reported seeing two dark, stove-lid-shaped objects traveling northward at 75 feet altitude. Freddy Hanks reported shiny disc-shaped objects near Libuse at 76 feet, appearing to float. A Colfax caller reported three black plate-sized discs moving northeast. Investigation conducted July 21, 1949 determined the newspaper accounts were entirely fabricated. The instigator, working with two newspaper employees, admitted the flying disc story was created "purely in fun" with no intent to cause trouble, taking full responsibility for the false reports.
