This document comprises official U.S. Air Force investigation reports into "flying disc" sightings near Bakersfield, California in March 1948. Multiple witnesses reported observing unusual aerial objects: a large orange-red ball of fire that remained stationary for approximately thirty seconds before splitting and burning, leaving brownish-white smoke plumes; witnesses also reported seeing parachute-like objects drifting eastward. Observations occurred at various times between 6-9 March 1948 at distances of five to twelve miles from observers. The Air Force's official comment attributed the activity to marker flares. The document also includes Dr. Hynek's categorical evaluation system classifying 253 reported incidents by astronomical probability, conventional explanations (balloons, aircraft, rockets, flares), and cases lacking evident explanation.
