This Dutch satirical print mocks the execution of members of the Doelisten militia company through grotesque visual humor. Hanged figures dangle from a gallows while officers below gesture and declaim, their speech scrolls filled with pompous language. The etched composition descends from Northern European print satire traditions—the moralizing narratives of Hogarth, the political bite of Gillray—using caricatured faces, exaggerated postures, and crowded narrative scenes to ridicule authority and social hypocrisy. The crude anatomies and violent spectacle served as popular visual commentary on civic scandal, prefiguring the mass-produced political broadsheets and picture-sheets (*Bilderbogen*) that would dominate nineteenth-century print culture and eventually inform the visual language of modern comics.
