Daami figuur

Obermann, Erik · 1908

Daami figuur
Erik Obermann's colored lithograph depicts a fashionable woman in exaggerated Art Nouveau style—swollen hair, corseted silhouette, trailing skirts—holding a mirror and flower. The figure embodies fin-de-siècle satire of female vanity and artificiality, common in early 20th-century European caricature. Obermann's work descends from traditions established by Hogarth, Gillray, and Daumier, who used grotesque exaggeration to mock social types. The lithographic technique allowed rapid reproduction of such satirical images for popular consumption. This print reflects contemporary anxieties about modernity and fashion.
