Rikkus
Erik Obermann's pen-and-ink drawing depicts a demonic figure with exaggerated features—pointed ears, muscular body, and leering expression—seated in a barren landscape. The work employs the linear hatching and caricatural distortion characteristic of early 20th-century German printmaking and the broader European satirical tradition descending from Hogarth and Gillray through Daumier and the Bilderbogen picture-sheets. The figure's grotesque physiognomy reflects period conventions of caricature used to denote evil, otherness, or moral corruption. As comic art evolved from such satirical prints, it inherited their visual language of exaggeration.
