View of Court Room, Federal Building, Cleveland, OH
Architect Arnold William Brunner's rendered interior of a Federal Building courtroom exemplifies early twentieth-century Beaux-Arts civic design. The composition emphasizes monumental scale and classical ornament: fluted columns rise to an elaborately coffered ceiling, while a central wall mural presides over the judge's bench. Large windows flood the space with natural light. Such architectural drawings—executed in ink and watercolor—guided contractors and communicated the aspirational grandeur intended for American public institutions, translating democratic ideals into built form.
