Design for a Waistcoat
This ornamental textile design features a decorative border of alternating golden leaves and blue fern fronds alongside a naturalistic study of flowering plants. The composition demonstrates early twentieth-century approaches to applied ornament, combining geometric patterning in the selvage with botanical illustration in the field. The soft palette and delicate rendering reflect contemporary interest in natural forms as sources for functional design. Such patterns were transferred to fabric and garment construction, exemplifying the period's integration of fine art practices with commercial manufacture.
