George McManus's *The Newlyweds* appeared on Sunday newspaper comic pages alongside *Splinters* and *Dad in Kidland*. The strip follows a young married couple navigating domestic life through physical comedy and sight gags—the husband tumbling, the wife exasperated, a baby crawling underfoot. McManus employed the visual language that defined early newspaper comics: sequential panels, speech balloons, repeated characters, and slapstick humor. Published in major dailies and Sundays nationwide, such strips were the direct ancestors of the comic book. McManus later created *Bringing Up Father*, but *The Newlyweds* exemplified how newspaper comics shaped popular entertainment and visual storytelling conventions that would dominate twentieth-century sequential art.
