No Katzenjammer Kids strip is visible. The page is nonetheless a document of the era when Sunday newspapers were the incubator of sequential art: Rudolph Dirks's *Katzenjammer Kids* (1897, *New York Journal*) had already introduced recurring mischief-makers Hans and Fritz, multi-panel flow, and speech balloons into millions of American homes, directly preceding the comic-book format.
