Old Doc Yak
This Sunday strip follows the misadventures of Old Doc Yak, a cantankerous goat character who encounters a pair of small visitors. The narrative unfolds across nine panels in a grid layout typical of the newspaper Sunday comic page. Through sequential art and speech balloons, the artist develops a slapstick scenario: the characters attempt a lesson that escalates into physical comedy, culminating in an explosive finale. The strip demonstrates the visual conventions pioneered by early newspaper comics—recurring characters, panel-to-panel narrative progression, and dialogue integrated within the frame. Such strips were the direct precursors to the comic book format, establishing the language of sequential art that would define the medium for generations.
