Gabe
This Sunday strip follows a young boy and his mishaps with a live turkey meant for Thanksgiving dinner. The six-panel sequence demonstrates the visual storytelling conventions emerging in early newspaper comics: sequential panels advancing a narrative, speech balloons carrying dialogue and comic timing, and recurring characters—the boy, his uncle, and various family members—reacting to escalating chaos. The turkey, initially docile, becomes increasingly unruly as the boy attempts preparations under his uncle's dubious instruction. The artist employs exaggerated body language and slapstick action to build comic momentum across panels, techniques that defined humor comics of the era and helped establish the visual grammar foundational to later comic book art.
